The Two Oceans Marathon has earned a reputation as the world’s most beautiful marathon. The first race was held in 1970 with 26 local runners lining up. Today the event attracts close to 38 000 local and international enthusiasts participating in a range of distances and engaging with the brand in many related activities and forums throughout the year.
The organization seeks a highly experienced General Manager to drive its vision of maintaining and growing its iconic brand.
Reporting to the Board, the General Manager will be responsible for: *Strategic Management & Business Planning * Event Planning and Management *Sponsorship Management *People Management *Financial Management *Stakeholder Relations *Contract Management *Business Risk Management *Professional Development.
A passionate and visionary leader with exceptional organisational skills as well as an influential interpersonal style is envisioned for this challenging role.
The successful candidate will have a relevant Bachelor’s Degree and a proven track record of at least 12 years working experience, of which a minimum of 5 years should ideally have been in a senior management position. Other critical attributes include: *Proven project management skills preferably relating to large sporting/cultural events * A thorough understanding of stakeholder requirements and expectations * Proven experience with sponsor negotiations and contracts * Superior people management and motivation skills.
In addition to the above, it is essential that the successful candidate shares the values of the organisation, namely,: passion, excellence, integrity, people and fun and that they display a passion for sport, running, the event and what it stands for.
A market-related remuneration package is on offer for this 3-year contract position (with a performance based renewal option).
