SHOE DROP APPEAL
part of the SSISA/UCT 10km Memorial Run, presented by The Sweat Shop.
The UCT Athletics Club’s annual 10km road race will be held on Sunday the 4th of May, starting at 07h00 on UCT Middle Campus. This year sees the expansion of the ‘Shoe Drop’ charity event that aims to collect shoes, warm clothes and old sporting equipment from around the city and donate it to SHAWCO Rags2Riches, from which funds will be generated for SHAWCO education projects.
This year’s race will see the second edition of the exciting and highly successful ‘Shoe Drop’, which helped generate thousands of Rands for SHAWCO in 2013.
We ask all Capetonians, runners or not, to help the needy gear up for winter. Donate your unused shoes, warm clothing and sporting equipment by dropping it off at one of the following locations:
• The Sports Science Institute of South Africa, Boundary Road, Newlands
Mon-Fri: 05h30-21h00, Sat: 06h30-19h00, Sun/Holidays: 08h00-12h30 & 16h00-19h00

UCT’s Student Health and Welfare Centre’s Organisation (SHAWCO)’s mission is to practice and promote responsible citizenship through health, education and social entrepreneurship initiatives. Since 2007, SHAWCO has been collecting second hand clothes and selling them in developing communities at low prices. This initiative came about in order to generate a surplus income to contribute towards SHAWCO’s sustainability. Rags2Riches is now part of SHAWCO’s Social Enterprise sector which was established in 2008. In 2011 they opened their first Rags2Riches store in Mowbray, and in May 2013 a second store was opened at the SHAWCO Kensington Centre.
