Western Province Athletics is host to the SA Senior Track & Field Championships which is taking place on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 April 2013 at Coetzenburg Stadium, Stellenbosch. We would like to strongly encourage all clubs to come out and support SA’s top performing track & field athletes.
Western Province athletes will be strongly represented, having won the SA U23 400m title in Pretoria last weekend, Sonja van der Merwe will head up the Western Province women's team this weekend. Sonja will run both the 200m and 400m. She will be ably supported by Samantha Pretorius, who was runner up in the long jump at the SA U23 Championships, and third in the 100m. Team Captain, Alet Marais, will be a strong contender in both the 400m and 800m. Stacey Welsch, winner of the SA Junior 200m title, will run that event and the 100m.
On the men's side, Rocco van Rooyen, runner up in the U23 javelin last weekend throwing a new personal best, will be joined by Ulrich Damon, ensuring a very strong representation in that event for Western Province. The sprint events will be very strongly contested by past SA medallists Antonio Alkana (100m/110m Hurdles), Roscoe Engel (100m/200m) and Sergio Mullins (200m), joined by Brent Stevens and Keenan Michau in the 100m.
Tickets will be available at the gate: Adults R20, Students / High School Scholars R10, Primary School Scholars R5 and children under 6 years free.
