January Newsletter 2012
It is January, the turn of a new year, may it be met with new zeal, hopes and dreams for 2012. The past month was focused on celebrating the festive season, some of our members were at home with family and friends and some members continued to work, ensuring that vital services are delivered throughout the busy period. For those that were on holiday we hope that you enjoyed the well-deserved break.

February Newsletter 2012
The 2012 season has started with exceptional momentum and a lot of enthusiasm. The clubs and members have all returned from a well-deserved break and the participating race numbers, acrossall events, have shown a huge increase.

March Newsletter 2012
2012 continues to attract increased numbers at all events. The first quarter has shown growth in all three disciplines, namely Road Running, Track & Field and Race Walking.

May Newsletter 2012
Exciting stories start with extra ordinary things and highlights normally. The second quarter of WPA hasstarted on a very high note. With two prime events such as the Old Mutual Two Oceans Series ofevents and the SPAR Ladies event, no Extreme Wet or Terrible Weather could stop the enthusiasm ofmore than 40 000 participants over two consecutive weekends! I believe that the participation inthese events show the healthy state of athletics in Western Province. If we can get more of thesenovice runners into the club system then we will be in a position as one of the strongest participatingprovinces in the country. WPA already has the best administrative office and we must thank theoffice members for their huge contribution.

June Newsletter 2012
The month of May brought some beautiful changes that are not normally expected this time of year. This is the time of the year where we are normally preparing for shorter days and longer evenings. Preparing for the long winter rest and admiring the daily changes to our landscape that surrounds us.

July Newsletter 2012
The Western Cape has embraced the sudden bitterly cold and wet winter conditions. The events
calendar also depicts the normal winter trend with a lot fewer events scheduled for the coming
month. We must encourage clubs and commissions to prepare for the upcoming season that begins after the school holidays.

July Newsletter 2012
We are still caught up in the heart of a bitterly cold and wet winter. The activity on the WPA calendar is currently focused on weekends and participation is limited by the hampering and changing conditions.

August Newsletter 2012
Cross country Runners, with only the National Championships remaining on the 2012 calendar, I would like to start this month’s article by extending a word of thanks to all who participated in this year’s activities and congratulations to all who achieved their goals this season. I would like to start with the following quote by John Bingham as a word of encouragement to our athletes and especially to those who are considering cross country for next year.

September Newsletter 2012
After the challenging winter conditions, spring is almost upon us as we anxiously await the warmer weather. All athletes will welcome the change which brings bright days filled with sunshine and blooming trees and flowers.

October Newsletter 2012
With the start of Spring, we have experienced some beautiful days in the Western Cape, especially welcoming the early sunrises and latter sunsets which allow us to fit in more training time. Although the calendar indicates that we are close to October, which is the most beautiful month, we are still firmly in the grip of the winter. Over the past few events we have experienced all seasons within one weekend.

November Newsletter 2012
At last we can welcome summer after a very long cold and wet winter season. Unfortunately a few
of the events hosted during October were heavily affected by the wind and rain. The weather at last is starting to change and the participating numbers are starting to increase.

December Newsletter 2012
Looking back on an eventful year the calendar was jam packed with local, regional, national and
international events that proved to be very successful for the province. Cross Country hosted the second CAA African Athletics Cross Country Championships in March; it was indeed a highlight on the calendar. WPA also hosted three National events, starting with the Yellow Pages Track and Field Inter Provincial in March, the SA 21km Championships in August and the 50km SA Race Walking Championships in October. All Western Province Athletics members can be proud of our achievements. A special word of thanks goes out to all the members that represented the variousLOC’s, helpers and volunteers, without your commitment and hard work these events would nothave been a success.

January Newsletter 2013
Over the last month everyone seemed to be rushing around preparing for the festive season ahead, completing their final tasks, projects and events in order to enjoy the holiday. We trust that all members had a good break and quality time spent with family and friends. For those members that were working during the month of December we trust that all will get a well-deserved break later this year.

February Newsletter 2013
With the start of the 2013 season, WPA can look forward to another action packed calendar of
events. We can be proud of the successful events that were hosted during 2012; we managed to
cater for all the members of WPA. I want to wish every member a year filled with many blessings and joy, special times spent with loved ones, family and friends. May all 2013 events be hosted at the highest possible standards, which allow all athletes the opportunity to participate in a fair
competition, according to the rules of the sport. These events will give every athlete the opportunity to set some achievable goals and thereby perform to the best of their ability.

March Newsletter 2013
March is normally one of the most action-packed months on the WPA calendar. The activities from all four commissions create enormous pressure for the office staff. Annie Bothma, a Western Province athlete, competed in the CAA Southern Region Cross Country Championships in Lesotho on 2 March and Norma Nonkonyana was the South African team manager. WPA is extremely proud of both Annie and Norma and wished them all the best for the past weekend.

April Newsletter 2013
We have experienced many positive changes between the months of March & April; we have
witnessed a change in the weather, which is much cooler and winter will be fast approaching. April is also the month to host all the National Track & Field Championships, this is when the best athletes will represent WP and compete against fellow athletes and competitors from other provinces. We wish all the athletes, representing WP, the very best, may they all achieve the best results possible. All the hard training and long hours in preparation will result in top
performances at the relevant junior and senior championships.

May Newsletter 2013
The change of season brought us to the end of the Track and Field competitions and to the start of the Cross Country leagues. This has affected everyone that is currently training as the sun is rising much later which impacts your training to early morning or late afternoon. A kind request to all members to pay attention to the clothing that you are wearing during your training runs. Please be advised to wear bright visible running apparel to prevent accidents.
